Meet Kuratas, the world’s first “boardable” robot.
Inspired by Japanese anime and manga comics (as well as bearing a scary resemblance to Robocop), Kuratas can be controlled by an on-board pilot or, for those wanting to cause devastation remotely, via a laptop or smartphone.
Armed with two Gatling guns that fire bb sized pellets at up to 6,000 rounds per minute, it’s more of a toy than a weapon of mass destruction. If you’d like to see it in the
flesh metal, Kuratas is currently on show at the Wonder Festival in the Tokyo suburb of Chiba.
Kuratas will be lurking on the Suidobashi Heavy Industry stand. Honestly though, you can’t miss it:
If you’re looking to find out more about how Kuratas works, check out the following video. Just a heads up – you are not hearing things. Those Gatling guns really are set to fire when the pilot smiles. Suidobashi Heavy Industry call it the “smile shot”. Scary stuff!
